RESIDENTS of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, have commended security agencies in ensuring the peaceful celebration of christmas and new year, in the local government.
The christmas and new year were celebrated in Ughelli without any glitch of crime of any kind through the efforts of security agencies that were battle ready for any eventualities.
Commending the efforts of security agencies and the local vigilantes, Mr Prosper Ekeme said, “For the past two years celebration of christmas and new year in Ughelli North has become joy unlike in them past when people were afraid to return home to meet with their loved ones.
He said “Coming back home during the end year to celebrate with your loved is becoming revived again especially in Ughelli North where you hear al kinds of crime relating to kidnapping, robbery and cultism.
“Before now, one cannot celebrate and move freely but for the last two years, the traditional institution in collaboration with the security agents and the Julius led CP- Special Assignment Team, CP- SAT. They have done marvelously in bringing peace back to our communities.
“Shooting of knockout and banger were minimized to a controllable extent and if we continue in the way, our Ughelli North communities’ glory may be returned in no distance time.
On her part, Mama P, a meat seller who lamented poor sales during the yuletide, expressed happiness over free movement, night life that cropped in during the period.
She said, “I didn’t make much sales but the joy in seeing your loved ones that came to celebrate with me and extended family gave me satisfaction because life is too short to be ignored.”
A senior security officer from the Ughelli Area Command who spoke on anonymous condition said, ‘The people were law abiding to a large extent despite the fact that crime cannot be totally eradicated.
“To a large extent, I want to commend people for being law abiding, security is not for just police and other sister agents alone but for everyone, we are just opportune to be wearing uniforms and after 35, years, we are back to the society.”
